Joy That Lasts… “The Source of Joy”

Sermon Application Questions

Take Notes Here

Joy doesn’t usually appear out of nowhere—it grows in relationships where faith is shared, practiced, and deepened together. In Philippians 1:1–11, Paul writes from prison, yet his words overflow with gratitude, affection, and joy. This joy is rooted in spiritual friendship, gospel partnership, and confidence that God is still at work. As you discuss this passage, listen for how joy grows when we invest in relationships, study Scripture together, and take intentional steps toward community.

Ice Breaker: Share one thing from this past week that brought you joy and one thing that drained it.

Read Philippians 1:1–11

  • Paul writes this letter while imprisoned. What stands out to you about the tone of his words? Where does his joy seem to come from?
  • Paul thanks God for the Philippians and speaks of their partnership in the gospel. What makes a friendship a spiritual friendship rather than just a social one?
  • How have other believers played a role in your spiritual growth? Why do you think God often uses people to shape our faith?
  • Paul expresses confidence that God will complete the work He began. How does studying the Bible and praying with others help us grow in confidence and understanding?
  • What step might God be inviting you to take right now toward deeper community—joining a group, staying committed, or opening your life to others?
  • What would it look like for you to intentionally pray for and encourage one another between meetings?
