Icebreaker: How do passages in the Bible give us a step by step guide on how to apologize?  Are you surprised that the answer is zero?

Why is that?  Is the Bible telling us not to say “I’m sorry” or is there something else at play?

As Christians, why aren’t we called to just say “I’m sorry” and move on?

What else could God be expecting from us?

Read 1 John 1:8-10; James 5:16

If confession is the process of owning our sin, how does confession go beyond saying, “I’m

sorry”?

The Greek word for confess literally means “to say the same thing.” When we confess our sins,

what are we saying?

What are the things that you need to confess and who do you need to confess them to?

Read Acts 3:19; 2 Corinthians 7:9-10

What does repentance mean? How is this different from confession?

If confession is owning our sin, repentance is turning from it. What sin are you turning from?

How is this changing your relationship with God and others?

Is repentance a one-time event or an ongoing practice?

Read Romans 12: 17 -18; Matthew 5: 23-24

What is reconciliation?

How are we reconciled to God?

What does a life of reconciliation look like?

Are you living a life reconciled to God and others?  What steps do you need to take?
