Icebreaker: What’s the strangest place you’ve ever prayed—or wanted to pray?
Read Jonah 1:17-2:10
Jonah found himself in the belly of a fish because of his disobedience. Are there any areas in your
life where you are running from God’s direction?
When have you felt like you were at “rock bottom”? How did you respond to God in that season?
Jonah turned to prayer in his lowest moment. What does your prayer life look like when you’re
in distress? How might God be inviting you to turn to Him more quickly?
When Jonah didn’t know what to pray, he prayed scripture. What are the passages of scripture
that you pray when you are in need?
Jonah acknowledged that “salvation comes from the Lord.” What does that truth mean for you
today—spiritually, emotionally, or relationally?
Jonah was disciplined but not destroyed. How does that reshape how you view God’s mercy in
your own struggles?
Jonah finally submitted to God’s call while in the fish. What is something God is calling you to
do—or return to—that you’ve been avoiding?
How can you make space in your week to listen to God’s voice—especially when life is hard, loud
or overwhelming?
