How to Study the Bible… “Plan”
Sermon Application Questions
Take Notes Here
When we study God’s Word, we embark on a journey to discover God’s love for us and the world we live in. The Bible reveals who God is, how He works in the world, and what it means to follow Him in everyday life. When we study the Bible carefully—paying attention to context, purpose, and meaning—we allow God’s Word to shape our beliefs, correct our assumptions, and guide our decisions. This journey helps us to faithfully follow and become like Jesus.

READ PHILEMON 1: 4-16
- Knowing that Paul is writing from prison, how does that change the way you hear Paul’s tone and priorities in this passage?
- Paul begins with prayer and thanksgiving before making a difficult request. How can that help you when you approach difficult conversations?
- Who in your life needs encouragement before instruction?
- How does Paul begin by celebrating Philemon’s active and growing faith?
- Where can people see your faith being expressed? How are you, “refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people”?
- Paul had the authority to command, but he chooses to appeal in love.
When are you tempted to rely on position, power, or pressure instead of relational persuasion?
- Paul asks Philemon to see Onesimus no longer just as a slave, but as a beloved brother. How does the gospel challenge the labels we put on people?
- Onesimus is described as once “useless” but now “useful.” How might God be redefining someone you’ve written off? Could that be you?
- How is God calling you to respond to His Word?
