Trellis:  A Jesus-Shaped Life… “Service”

Sermon Application Questions

Take Notes Here

Icebreaker: Can you think of a time when someone served you in a meaningful way? What did they do, and why did it make such an impact on you?

Read John 13:1–17

  • What was the biggest thing that stood out to you in this week’s sermon?
  • Why did Jesus wash His disciples’ feet? What does this teach us about true greatness and humility? How does this example remind us that serving others is never beneath us?
  • Are you surprised that Jesus washed the feet of all His disciples, including Judas, who would soon betray Him? Why is it sometimes difficult to serve people who have hurt us, disappointed us, or don’t seem deserving?
  • Peter initially refused to let Jesus wash his feet (verse 8). Why do you think receiving help can sometimes be just as difficult as giving it? Which is harder for you?
  • Jesus said, “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (verse 17). How have you experienced God’s blessing through serving others?
  • Serving is one of the practices that helps us become more like Jesus. What is one practical way you could intentionally serve someone this week—at home, at church, at work, or in our community?
