Icebreaker: Who—or what—is forming you into the person you are becoming?
Read Romans 12:1-2
- Spiritual formation isn’t a just a Christian thing; it’s a human thing. What are some ways the world is trying to form you?
- Pastor Jed identified several worldly temptations that are constantly forming us: consumerism, achievement, entertainment/distraction, hurry/busyness, and outrage culture. Which of these has the strongest pull on you right now?
- Paul says transformation happens through the “renewing of your mind.” Where do you recognize patterns in your thinking that aren’t particularly Jesus-shaped? What might it look like for Jesus to renew that part of your thinking?
- Christian formation isn’t simply trying harder to behave like Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit, we’re becoming the kind of people who naturally respond more like Jesus. Where have you noticed that kind of transformation in yourself over the years?
- What’s Next? What is one next step you can take this week to cooperate with Jesus’ transforming work in you?
- Pastor Jed shared a story about how sailboats work. He said we can’t create the wind, but we can raise the sails.. What would “raising your spiritual sails” look like for you this week?
