Sermon Application Questions

Take Notes Here

Icebreaker: What’s your natural reaction when conflict arises—avoid it, address it, or escalate it? Why do you think that’s your default?

Compass Point 6 – To address conflict in a manner consistent with the Gospel (Matthew 18:15-17)

Read Matthew 5:23–25

  • Why do you think Jesus places such urgency on resolving conflict?

  • Why does this conflict resolution come before worship?

Read Matthew 18:15–17

  • How does Jesus’ step-by-step approach differ from the way our culture often handles conflict?

  • Step One – Right Away. What are the dangers of letting conflict linger?

  • Step Two – Face to Face. Why is in-person conversation more effective than text, email, or social media for resolving relational issues?

  • Step Three – One on One: How can we guard against the temptation to talk to others about someone before we’ve talked directly to them?

  • Step Four – Get Help: What does healthy “getting help” look like? How is it different from gossip or taking sides?

Application

  • Is there a relationship in your life right now that needs one of these four steps? What’s your next move this week?

  • How will resolving a conflict actually deepen your relationship with Jesus and the other person?
